Overcoming a CHallenge
Stan Lee has had several challenges in his life. One was relating to his heart. There were rumors put around that Stan Lee was having health issues. These rumors started because Stan Lee canceled appearances for a comic con in Ohio and an Authors! Authors! event taking place in Toledo. When the appearances were canceled, no explanation was given except a statement by Stan’s agent saying it was “a very serious circumstance.” It was also said that Stan couldn’t go to any public events “for the near future.” In May of 2012, the then 89 year-old author had to drop out of his scheduled appearance at the Hero Complex Film Festival due to his not feeling well, which led to speculation about Lee’s health. On September 28, 2012 Lee’s company, POW! Entertainment, released an official statement. This statement was revealed in the typical way Stan Lee does it.
"Attention, Troops!
"This is a dispatch sent from your beloved Generalissimo, directly from the center of Hollywood’s combat zone!
"Now hear this! Your leader hath not deserted thee! In an effort to be more like my fellow Avenger, Tony Stark, I have had an electronic pace-maker placed near my heart to insure that I’ll be able to lead thee for another 90 years.
"But fear thee not, my valiant warriors. I am in constant touch with our commanders in the field and victory shall soon be ours. Now I must end this dispatch and join my troops, for an army without a leader is like a day without a cameo!"
The release was signed, "Excelsior!"
By this statement we learn that Stan Lee had a heart condition that made him need a pacemaker for his heart. Stan Lee overcame the heart problems he was having by getting a pacemaker.
